Metal allergy on engagement ring and wedding ring

We, MOKUMEGANEYA, offer engagement ring and wedding ring that people who have metal allergies can safely wear.
Moreover, we recommend patch test at the dermatologist in advance to feel at ease to place an order. Because engagement ring and wedding ring are once in your lifetime, we believe that you need to know what kind of metals we use. Why don’t you try only one made-to-order ring that matches each of you?

What is metal allergy?

Metal is not usually dissolved by water, but it has the possibility that the small amount of metal is dissolved by sweat and body fluid; coming out from wounds such as piercing. This is called metal ionization.

In the first place, metal allergy is a kind of antibody reaction that humans have. When an ionized metal, allergen, is absorbed in the body, it acts with the body protein and becomes a different form from the original protein, so the body rejects this different form of the protein and cause “rash” and “inflammation.” This immunological rejection destroys the body tissues.

Even once the inflammation has healed, if the same metal touches the body again, the antibody provided at the last invasion, reacts violently with the ionized metal, allergen, and repeats inflammation each time.

Mechanism of allergy

Allergic difference by metals

There are metals that easily cause allergies and rarely cause allergies.

<Metals easy to cause allergies>
Nickel, cobalt, gold, platinum, palladium, copper, iron, etc.

<Metals rare to cause allergies>
Aluminum, sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, silver, titanium, etc.

*Some people have allergies to even metals that rarely cause allergies depending on the body constitution.
None of metals is perfectly safe, so please take care of that point.

The metal allergy to silver

Many people think it is easier to have an allergic reaction with silver, but silver is actually less likely to have an allergic reaction with. Just like silverware, silver is so safe as you can put it in your mouth.
It seems that many of the people who are allergic to silver, are actually allergic to Nickel included to silver.
We do NOT use Nickel as an alloy at all.

We can make our rings without silver. Please let us know at the design consultation if you do not want to use silver for your rings.

Patch test

There is a way to examine what kind of metals you have an allergic to, called “Patch Test.” How to examine is to attach the adhesive bandage with the reagent to the back for 2 days, and 2, 3, and 7 days later, check whether or not, the red reaction occurs at the place corresponding to the allergen. Thereby, you can know the metals causing the allergy to your body.
*Some clinics do not have patch test. Please confirm it to the clinics directly in advance.

In case you get an allergy to metal after purchasing our rings

Even if you have never had an allergic reaction to metals so far, it is possible that you will get an allergy to metal in the future. It will cost you some, but you can exchange the liner by repair.

It does not mean everybody has some metal allergies.
