Speaking of engagement rings, a large number of people give diamonds. But when did the custom begin?

The first person who gifted a diamond engagement ring is the Grand Duchy of Maximillian in Austria. About 500 years ago, in 1477, he gave Princess Marie in Burgundy the half-rounded ring with diamonds made in a shape of M.

Moreover, engagement rings and wedding rings are called “bridal rings”, too. Where did it come from?

Even in the Europe and U.S.A., the custom of giving both engagement rings and wedding rings started in the 19th century. Before that, people gave either engagement rings or wedding rings depending on whether the church in that era considered marriage or engagement was more important.

Why do we wear engagement rings on the left ring fingers?

Wedding rings and engagement rings are also called bridal rings and are worn on the left ring finger. But do you know why it is the left ring finger?

The left hand symbolizes “submission and trust”, and especially ring finger had been told to symbolize “creation”. In ancient Egypt, people said the blood vessel of the left ring finger was connected to the heart, and that was why bridal jewelry, a symbol of love, was worn on this finger.

It is also said that people wore the rings on the left ring finger to show their obedience to the partners because it is a weak finger that cannot be used with one finger.

I chose MOKUMEGANEYA for this special occasion because I wanted a ring that was as unique and special as my sweetheart. The mokume pattern caught my eye because of its beauty and how every design is different. My Japanese heritage is also important to me and I wanted to share it with (hopefully) soon-to-be wife!

U.S.A. Mr. G. C.

I wanted to purchase a one-of-a-kind ring that few others would have.

Many manufacturers produce the same style rings, & everybody else’s rings look the same. I am very happy about have nice and unique ring come out.

U. K. Mr. A. T.

I was interested in the Mokume Gane style of metalwork and found Mokumeganeya jewelry to be of the highest standard available.

Portugal  Mr. V. R.

They are very beautiful, but the main reason were the Sakura petals.
