Our rings should tell that story: 80% + 80%, bound by fate and forged by choice, equals 100%

My name is V, and this is the story of L and me, for the rings and necklace you are making for us.
In the summer of 2022, I had just finished graduate school, ended a long-term relationship, and entered a season of quiet rebellion—choosing to bartend and tattoo instead of stepping immediately into a corporate career. L worked in the art industry, so our professional paths would likely never have crossed. He is deeply introverted and rarely went out, but that summer, his friends kept encouraging him to join them.
One of those friends happened to be my coworker at the bar, and she invited him to visit the bar where we worked one night. For L, it was love at first sight. We talked for hours. He left without my number, but returned again and again, hoping to see me—though I wasn’t working on those nights. On his fifth visit, he finally saw me behind the bar, walked over, and asked for my Instagram. When we went on our first date, I felt a wave of quiet comfort the moment I saw him walking toward me—like something inside just settled. I felt safe with this man I’d only just met.
Looking back, it was a perfect storm of unlikely choices: me stepping away from the corporate path, him stepping out of his comfort zone. Our lives had drifted close for years, but only when we both veered off-course did we finally collide. That’s why the pink gold “red string” in our design means so much. It represents that invisible thread—strong enough to pull two people together across time, distance, and every reason not to meet.
We are choosing forever because we love being together. Even in stillness, our presence feels warm and comforting to one another. I feel truly safe with L because I know he loves me completely and unconditionally—even the grumpy, moody, sensitive parts that others once criticized. He is my calmest supporter, the one who is genuinely happy to see me shine. That’s why the engagement necklace—with its single blooming sakura diamond—means so much. It represents his quiet pride in my light, and my trust in his steady support. And for L, he tells me he feels truly loved because I care for him in a way no one else ever has.
We chose Mokumeganeya because Mokume-gane feels like the metal expression of our truth: two strong, individual pieces fused under pressure—not to erase who they are, but to become something more resilient together. I once believed love was about finding a perfect fairytale match. What I’ve learned with L is that love is about finding someone who is 80% right and choosing each other through the remaining 20%. Through every argument, what kept us together was that we both chose to stay and rebuild. A relationship only works when two people continue to choose it. So, our rings should tell that story: 80% + 80%, bound by fate and forged by choice, equals 100% . The math doesn’t work on paper—but it works in love.
As you craft these pieces, please imbue them with our bond—both fated and chosen—and the feeling of home we return to in each other. Hidden within the design is our quiet promise: the aquamarine, placed on the outside of my ring and inside of his, so his inner strength becomes the foundation for my light. The sakura diamond of my engagement necklace is that light itself—a shining reminder that his support is the foundation for my light, and my light is the warmth that fills his home. We entrust our story and its meaning to your hands.
Thank you!
